World Cup III

We are now in Lucerne Switzerland. We have been here for 3 days preparing for racing. Lucerne is a beautiful city. It is located on lake Lusenersee with gorgeous mountains surrounding the area. It is fantastic! I would recommend for everyone to come and see this city!

Tomorrow we begin racing! World Cup III has begun! I'm so excited! Heats are on Friday, reps on Saturday and finals on Sunday. Our heat tomorrow is at 1:12pm. 2:12am in Victoria and 5:12am in Ontario. You can follow the results on the World Rowing website.

Thanks for your support!

Training Camp Corgeno, Italy

We have spent 8 days in Italy for a team training camp in preparation for World Cup III. As a crew, we were able to overcome some tension and make new limits for our crew. We are stronger together and have found more speed! We are very excited to go race the world!

Our daily team dinner at a local restaurant. Great Italian pizza and pasta!

We had an afternoon and day off while here and we spent the time at the beach. They were both hot humid days, so being in the water was very refreshing. It was a great time of relaxing. We did get some looks from the locals as our tan lines are very distinctive!

Now we travel by bus to Lucerne and begin racing on Friday with the heats. Saturday is the reps and Sunday is the final. I will be sending updates via twitter and Facebook for race times and live video feed!

Thanks for your support!

Holland Beker Day 2

We raced the same crews today but with different conditions. A faster tail wind that built towards the finish line. We had a solid race till we reached that water, but we let it get the better of us, putting us in 3rd again. It was disappointing but also a learning race. A successful weekend of racing and great starting point for our quad.

We are now in Italy for a week training camp before we head to Lucerne Switzerland for World Cup III. We have some focused training ahead of us and we are pumped to work hard and get fast!

Our flight to Italy has some great fews of the mountains. Enjoy!

Holland Beker Day 1

We had our first race today, against two Dutch crews and New Zealand. We had a great race and posted a great time but we can still find more speed. We placed 3rd behind the Dutch and New Zealand with a 4 second spread. We are racing the same crews tomorrow and we are excited and ready to bring the Canadian fight again!

I had a couple of second cousins come and watch my race which was really cool! Have supporters all over the world!

Amsterdam

We arrived in Amsterdam on Monday and went straight to the Bosbaan to row. We are commuting on bikes to the course which is about a 10min cycle one way. It's a nice leisurely cycle and great way to warm. We do get a lot of looks as we are wearing helmets and often block traffic. Traffic tends to stop for us as they see crazy tourists with helmets! Haha! At least we're turning heads right?! We have been training twice a day since we've been here, preparing for racing on the weekend.

On Tuesday evening I visited with my second cousins that I met last summer. It was neat to see them again. A few of them will be coming to watch me race this weekend!

The Journey Continues!

Technical changes have been made, strength gains and new personal bests on the erg have been posted! The best way to keep pursuing my dream!

The winter hasn't been easy, with lots of emotional battles, a couple injuries and a couple colds to fight, but I pushed through it and have become stronger because of it. I did not make the team that traveled to Australia in March, racing World Cup I,a few tears were shed, but it drove me to work harder and get better. That has paid off! With those technical changes made on the water and gains made off the water, I have secured myself a seat in the quad for Holland Beker and World Cup III in Lucerne Switzerland. I get to see some new countries and cultures, but most importantly, I get to race! I am very excited to represent my country again and wear the maple leaf!

I hope to be able to post updates while I'm overseas and possibly add some pictures for your enjoyment.

Go Canada!

Henley Royal Final Day

In the final today we were matched against the German Olympic 8.
We knew it was going to be a tough battle today so we jumped off the line and got out in front right away!! From there our aim was to keep attacking so there was no chance the Germans could make a come back! They never came!!! We kept walking on them and finished with a 2 length lead on them! It was our best race!

Thank you for all your support during my adventure and Happy Canada Day!!

Some pictures for you to enjoy!

Now I am traveling Europe for a couple weeks with some teammates!! I'm really looking forward to exploring new places!!!
